Recommended for students who have completed the first semester of the Basics of game development course or who know Scratch at an intermediate level.

The second semester will take us to the world of 2D video games. Thanks to the Kodu Game Lab, students will learn how to create and program three-dimensional projects, and in the second part of the semester we are going to use Scratch to create advanced games such as Pokemon Go.

Intro

The coding basics are implemented in the Scratch language. It is an educational language, created as a tool to teach children the basics of coding. It enables easy creation of interactive stories, animations or games. Coding is done in a visual way - elements of the language are in the shape of puzzles, which arranged in a proper way create a working program or game. Part of the classes is designed for programming three-dimensional applications on the KODU platform and programming with the use of special electronic elements - Makey Makey. IT IS REQUIRED TO KNOW HOW TO READ, WRITE AND COUNT UP TO 20. Our online classes are NOT a webinar or a Youtube course! During our online classes, each student will see the teacher's screen, hear what he or she is saying, and the teacher will have an insight into what the student is doing and saying (he or she will see each student's screen). Each student will be able to ask a question by voice, the teacher will be able to answer every question and indicate exactly where the error is and how to fix it.

Plan of the course

Our first lesson will be mostly about getting to know the Tynker programming environment. We’ll show similarities to Scratch and some new features that aren’t available in it. We’ll develop a project in which we’ll review our knowledge from the previous semester.
In this lesson we’ll create an extensive game which will use built-in Tynker functionalities used to create games with a camera looking from above. Game will include two levels, in the first part of this lesson we’ll create the first level and program our game characters.
In this lesson we’ll continue the previous one. We’ll develop the second level of the game in which we’ll design traps, obstacles, final battle with a boss and modify our map.
In this lesson we’ll create a classic platformer in the Tynker environment. We’ll add mechanics and items typical for this type of games and create the first level of our game.
In this lesson we’ll continue our project from the previous one. We’ll finish creating the map of the first level and add a portal to the next one where we’ll fight the final boss.
